10 Countries Where You Only Need A $30-Travel Budget Per Day

Do you sometimes wish you can take a vacation, gap year, or career break, but don’t have the money?

It’s hard to save money, especially if you’re targeting an expensive destination. You may be lucky enough to book a cheap flight, but you also have to think of the daily cost of living.

Luckily, there are still amazing but affordable destinations. If you want to travel overseas, here are ten countries you can stay in for only $30 a day — maybe even less.

1. Thailand

Even if Thailand is a popular travel destination, you can still travel to this country without draining your bank account.

The food, accommodations, and sightseeing activities are relatively cheap. You can get a room for $6 to $10 a night, have meals for less than $5, and go to popular tourist spots for $10. That’s around $20 to $25 a day.

2. Bali

Another great destination you can go to for less than $30 in Bali. You can get rooms for less than $10 per night and eat local food for $2 to $5. You can also do sightseeing activities for around $10.

This is the cost of the expensive part of Bali. If you go inland, everything gets cheaper.

3. Greece

You would imagine that a country with a rich history would be expensive, but traveling in Greece is a bargain. Their local delicacies cost less than $5, eat a lamb dinner for $10 to $15, and get a single room for less than $20.

If you want to have an evening of drinks, it will cost you $5. Activities will cost more, especially if you’re traveling during peak summer months.

4. Central America

If you want to visit Central America, you can probably do it for less than $30 a day – unless you’re aiming for Costa Rica, Belize, or Panama (you’ll need to add $5 to $10 to your travel budget).

Aside from these places, you can get budget rooms for $10, eat for $3, and spend a dollar on transportation or drinks.

5. Budapest

Another historic travel destination that’s not expensive is Budapest. You can get a room in hostels for $10 since private rooms will cost double. You can eat kebab and sandwiches for $3 to $5 and travel around the city for a few dollars.

If you’re not going for an evening of drinks or visit dozens of attractions, $30 is enough to enjoy this beautiful city.

6. Peru

If your country has one of the Wonders of the World, you would think it would be an expensive travel destination. Fortunately, Peru, the home of Machu Picchu, has hostels for $6 and street food for $1 to $2.

If you’re planning to hike the Inca Trail, you would probably be draining your savings account and investments. But don’t worry, there are other activities you can do for a small price.

7. Bulgaria

Another country you can visit in Europe for less than $30 in Bulgaria. Not only is it a cheap travel destination, but it’s also quiet and not crowded. You can find hostels for $12 and visit beaches, ruins, and spots for a low price.

8. Vietnam

One of the cheapest travel destinations in Southeast Asia is Vietnam. You won’t need a loan to travel to this beautiful country.

If you decide to travel backpacker-style, you can even reduce your budget to $10 a day. Hostels cost around $3, and this may already include free breakfast and beer. You can eat street food for less than $1 and won’t have to spend a lot on transportation.

9. India

India is a beautiful destination that offers cheap accommodation and budget-friendly meals. You can find hostels for $2 and eat for less than $1. If you’re fine spending all your $30, you can get around in taxis instead of public transportation.

10. Madagascar

You may have to spend your investments to get to Madagascar, but the daily cost of living is relatively cheap. The food and accommodation are inexpensive, and you can see a lot of unique wildlife. Best of all, there aren’t a lot of people visiting this travel destination.
