MINNIE RIPERTON AND MAYA RUDOLPH
Maya Rudolph is beloved for being a comedy genius, but did you know that she was a singer before joining SNL? She was in the alternative band The Rentals before joining an improv troupe called The Groundlings. From there, Maya found the comedy calling and eventually landed a spot on Saturday Night Live. Other projects she has worked on over the years include 50 First Dates, the Grown Ups movies, Big Hero 6, and Shrek the Third.
Her mother, on the other hand, is a musician through and through. Minnie Riperton is famous for her 5-octave operatic soprano voice, shown in her 1975 hit Lovin’ You. Although Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande are known for their amazing vocal range, it’s Minnie who takes the credit for being the queen of the whistle register. Unfortunately, she passed away at the young age of 31. Even so, one can’t deny the significant mark Minnie left on the music industry.
