Janet Jackson was born on May 16, 1966 in Gary, Indiana. Jackson was the daughter of Catherine Esther and Joseph Walter Jackson. She may be the youngest member of the Jackson family, but she sure knew how to make a name for herself. She started acting when she was very young. Janet Jackson began her career when she performed in the 1976 variety show The Jacksons, along with her siblings. Later on, under her father’s management, the singer released her debut album, Janet Jackson, in 1982, which was then followed by Dream Street in 1984.

After deciding to end her business affairs with her family, she released many albums under her credit that received awards and became hits like 1986’s Control, 1997’s The Velvet Rope, and 2001’s All For You. In addition to being a musician, Jackson also served as an entrepreneur and spokesperson. She even launched her own jewelry collection. Also, she wrote a self-help book True You, which recorded her life and struggle. The book is at the top of the New York Times bestseller list.
