Demi Moore’s look at the 1989 Academy Awards really turned heads for its uniqueness and the fact that it was designed by the actress herself. The Academy Awards red carpet isn’t the best place to perform a styling experiment and Demi’s look may have been described as bizarre at the time.

Looking back, however, the actress may be considered a creative genius even without so much as a degree in fashion and design. She stepped out in a Renaissance-style corset with what looked like bike shorts. It was unconventional, to say the least, but right now is considered one of the coolest moments in Oscar red carpet history.
